Reisa Shimojima

Born in 1992, Shimojima is a native of Kagoshima Prefecture. She began studying dance at the age of seven, with a focus on Yosakoi dance, which is performed at festivals. Entering J. F. Oberlin University, she studied contemporary dance with Kisanuki Kuniko. She formed the KEDAGORO dance company in 2013 and is responsible for the choreography and production of all its works. She was awarded ‘Outstanding New Artist Prize’ and ‘TOUCHPOINT ART FOUNDATION Prize’ at Yokohama Dance Collection 2017 competition II. Her work, 5./BODY.RADICAL was performed at International Performing Arts Biennial in Hungary and won an ‘Audience Prize’. She also won an ‘Overseas Guest Award’ for her work ODORU at Akita 2017 Tatsumi Hijikata Memorial Prize Finalist. In 2018 she won a ‘NDA Prize’ in the 3rd Asia Solo & Duo Challenge of New Dance For Asia 2018 in Korea.
